A Country Club's Evening of Mentalism

2026 is still in its infancy, and already it’s filled with shows, travel, and unforgettable moments. I created this blog as a kind of digital time capsule—because in this line of work, experiences can pass in a blur. Here, I can slow things down, savor them, and share a glimpse behind the curtain.

If you’d like to follow along with upcoming performances, you can find all show announcements on Instagram (@MarkGibsonMagic). And if you’re considering bringing this experience to your own club or event, you can learn more about my private performances here

A Night at the Country Club of Columbus

I begin this year of mystery in the land of Columbus, Georgia USA. A delightful member of the Country Club of Columbus had invited me to perform for their fellow membership at the beautiful Country Club of Columbus. Known for its lush greens and friendly staff, the membership were all treated to an evening of drinks, dinner, and entertainment (provided by yours truly). The dining staff of CCC went above and beyond to create Mentalism inspired dishes, such as “Mind Control Fudge Brownies,” and, “Subconscious Citrus Chicken.”

The event sold out in just a few days, with over 150 members in attendance—something that’s becoming increasingly common for country club entertainment programs that prioritize unique, high-end experiences.

Designed to Pack Small, Play Big

My night began with a quick and easy sound check. My show is designed to pack small and play big, so the technical requirements needed are minimal. So long as the audience can see and hear me, we are good to go! In no time, the double doors were opened and a sea of members came flooding in. A flurry of handshakes, cocktails, and warm welcomes permeated the space. Before I knew it, showtime.

A Moment of Mystery

I hesitate to include the details of this show, given the trust I have with my audiences, while also preserving the mystery of my performances. But a little hint wouldn’t hurt. All names have been changed to respect the privacy of those in the audience:

20 minutes into the show I was pulled across the room to the back corner. A woman (we will call her Lizzie) stands and takes the microphone. From the stage I begin painting a picture of her thinking. She was focused on a person in her life, someone not present that night.

“ I am getting the impression of The Phantom Of the Opera, and symbolically to me, this is indicative of someone who goes by a different name.”

Lizzie nods suspiciously.

I cross the stage to my notebook and scribble a name. N-I-C-K. Before revealing anything I ask Lizzie,

“ Do you call this person something other than their actual name?”

Lizzie nods.

“Also their name is not their own…”

Lizzie begins to laugh through bated tears.

“ They were named after someone else in your life. You brother?”

“Yes!” Lizzie shouts.

“ I believe their name is Nick.”

“OH MY GOD!” Lizzie erupts.

The rooms energy becomes electrified from here on out.

Why This Matters

Moments like these are the reason I love what I do. My entire ambition onstage is to get the spotlight off of me, and onto the audience. Using my skills to highlight the people, memories, and lives of those in the room has been the catalyst of my work since the beginning. My goal is simple: Connect with as many people as possible, and by sharing their stories and memories, we all collectively drop the invisible vail which separates us, and take one collective step closer to understanding one another. A shared moment of mystery.

A Word from the Club

Membership entertainment has been a staple of my work for a long time now, and it is always an honor to be a part of a clubs events calendar. I will leave you with the kind words of Shea, Country Club of Columbus’ Event Manager:

“Mark Gibson is an absolute delight to work with! Mark truly created such a unique experience for our members. We were delighted to witness such a magical show—our minds were blown away! It was such a personable performance, and we sincerely hope to see it again soon.”
