A Country Club's Evening of Mentalism

I began this year of mystery in Columbus, Georgia, where I had the pleasure of performing at the beautiful Country Club of Columbus for a very special member event. The evening was designed entirely around my performance, transforming a traditional country club dinner into an immersive night of mystery, psychological illusion, and unforgettable audience interaction.

The opportunity came together in one of my favorite ways possible. A member of the club had previously seen me perform while I was entertaining aboard Seabourn Cruise Line and enjoyed the experience so much that he wanted to bring that same energy back home to his local community. That kind of word-of-mouth recommendation means everything to me because the strongest performances are always built on genuine connection.

Known for its beautiful grounds, welcoming atmosphere, and incredible hospitality, the membership at the Country Club of Columbus was treated to an evening of cocktails, dinner, and live mentalism entertainment. The club went all in on the theme of the night, which made the experience even more memorable. The culinary team created custom mentalism-inspired menu items including “Mind Control Fudge Brownies” and “Subconscious Citrus Chicken,” proving just how creative country club member experiences can become when entertainment is treated as more than background noise.

The event sold out within just a few days, welcoming more than 150 members for the evening. Across the country, I’ve noticed more clubs seeking unique entertainment experiences that feel elevated, interactive, and personal. Traditional entertainment certainly has its place, but many clubs are now looking for specialty acts that create conversation long after the night ends. That is exactly where live mentalism and magical entertainment thrive.

One of the things country clubs appreciate most about my show is its flexibility. My performance is designed to pack small and play big. The technical requirements are intentionally minimal, which makes the setup process smooth for both the venue and event staff. As long as the audience can comfortably see and hear me, we are ready to create something special.

After a quick sound check, the ballroom doors opened and members began pouring in. The room immediately filled with handshakes, laughter, cocktails, and anticipation. There is always a unique energy before a country club show begins because guests are not entirely sure what they are about to experience. Mentalism exists in that beautiful space between theater and reality. People arrive curious, skeptical, excited, and open to surprise.

A Moment of Mystery

I always hesitate to reveal too much about my performances because preserving the mystery is part of the experience. At the same time, moments like these are worth sharing because they perfectly capture why I love performing mentalism for live audiences. All names have been changed to protect the privacy of those involved.

About twenty minutes into the performance, I found myself drawn across the room toward a woman seated quietly in the back corner. We’ll call her Lizzie. She stood and accepted the microphone. From the stage, I began describing impressions and thoughts connected to someone important in her life. Someone who was not physically present that evening.

“I am getting the impression of The Phantom Of the Opera, and symbolically to me, this is indicative of someone who goes by a different name.” 

Lizzie nods suspiciously. 

I cross the stage to my notebook and scribble a name. N-I-C-K. Before revealing anything I ask Lizzie, 

“Do you call this person something other than their actual name?” 

Lizzie nods. 

“Also their name is not their own…” 

Lizzie begins to laugh through bated tears. 

“They were named after someone else in your life. You brother?” 

“Yes!” Lizzie shouts. 

“I believe their name is Nick.” 

“OH MY GOD!” Lizzie erupts. 

The rooms energy becomes electrified from here on out. 

You could physically feel the energy shift throughout the ballroom. Complete strangers were suddenly leaning toward one another in disbelief. Moments earlier, everyone had simply been guests attending dinner at their country club. Now the entire room felt connected through one deeply personal and emotional experience. Those are the moments I chase as a mentalism performer.
